Some comical takes on our medical journey
Drawing stories has always been a form of reflection, processing, and joy for me, so comics became a great outlet to process the unique experiences of medical training. I hope these comics make you laugh, reflect, groan, or some combination of both.
“Learning in Medical School (as told by penguins)”
Illustrated using Procreate on the iPad Pro
A comic inspired by a story from the incredible Dr. Melanie Sulistio. To this day, I still imagine my little penguins desperately clinging on for dear life.
“Beginning Clerkships”
Illustrated using Procreate on the iPad Pro
Inspired by a very real conversation with a classmate as we realized we would be starting our very first hospital rotation in a matter of days.
“Overheard in Medicine” series
Illustrated using Procreate on the iPad Pro
A re-imagination of medical terminology, as overheard by my 10-year old self. For best viewing experience, click on one of the panels to enlarge it and then swipe through the slideshow.
“The Things We Share”
Published in Annals of Internal Medicine, 2022
I have been humbled by the complex, nuanced, and layered conversations I’ve had with patients I work with. I sought to illustrate the core of those interactions here, by visually depicting how much we share with each other—using “share” in multiple senses of the world. In one sense, we both share things with each other: histories, perspectives, ideas, expertise. And in doing so, we may discover other things we share: values, treatment goals, understanding, trust.
