Graphic Facilitation
2018 Stanford Disrupt Diabetes Conference
Graphic facilitators are artists who create real-time illustrations/visuals to capture the content of presentations and conferences. I had the opportunity to explore the world of graphic facilitation after being hired to work at the 2018 Stanford Disrupt Diabetes Conference. It was one of the most simultaneously terrifying, fulfilling, and fun jobs I’ve ever done. You can check out some snippets of this experience below!
Brief time lapse
I was stationed with a giant easel at the front of the conference room, as 12 teams — each led by an individual living with diabetes — presented their pitches for how to improve different aspects of the patient experience. My favorite challenge was coming up with visual “shorthands” to capture ideas as the teams were talking. The illustrations were then used by the conference judges to review each team’s presentations and were also displayed outside the conference hall for all attendees to view.
